You must give God your best, until it (seemingly) hurts. He didnt have respect to Cains sacrifice. The poor widow Jesus spoke of gave her best—everything she had & He had more respect than all the other gifts.
The sins of Adam and Eve went on to their sons. Cain got jealous, if he did well, he would be accepted (but he didnt, he was jealous and wicked). Sin multiplies: Cain killed his brother. Sin will kill you, wreck your life, take away joy, peace, and youll lose blessings. God couldve had (good) things stored up—and planned-- in your life (and sin derails it). Pro 16:3 Commit thy works unto the LORD, and thy thoughts shall be established. Our thoughts cannot be established when God sees something in us driving his blessing away.
Ecc 12:13: Let us hear the conclusion of the whole matter: Fear God, and keep his commandments: for this is the whole duty of man.
God wanted man to serve him. We may still be alive today because God has a plan for us to serve Him. Sometimes we find things of our nature contrary to God and we enjoy them—the sins of this world. Often our promises are delayed, thus what God wanted to do didnt come to pass. We must understand the cost. God had a plan for men to be free. Before He did that, to get men ready he did something beforehand:
Leviticus 4:1-4: If soul sins ignorantly (not something you meant to do)...bullock would die instead of the man that sinned.
If a man sinned willfully, mercy was not necessarily required (by the law).
