So yesterday I made my way to the local market. When I said Japan can be an expensive place to live in I was not joking. I still can't figure out at all why the rice was so expensive.....

Soon to come will be a cost of living video. It will only be relative to where I live so look forward to that :)

  • Thats not that expensive compared to California

  • really???? Im from California and have never paid so much for the same things

  • No Fuji supermarket around there? Usually those private owned small grocery stores are much more expensive except vegetables. Some products you bought can be found at 100yen stores.

  • i would give anything to live closer to either of those stores. The nearest fuji and 100yen store is an hour away....:-(

  • Be careful with the camera while you drive in the rain!!!

  • Rice is expensive because it is only grown in japan, at least this version. :/ And that price isn't that uncommon.

  • If I was you then I would ask someone I knew in America to buy all my rice for me & ship it overhere, lol.

  • WHAT SONG IS PLAYING AT 4:45 IN THE STORE?

  • The rainy season? Just like in 'Ima, ai ni yukimasu'! (今、アイにゆきます) So that means that Yuji-kun's mom is about to come back, around this time. :D

  • I've gotta say, that's pretty cheap for the bag of rice compared to what I'm paying near Tokyo. A 2.2 KG bag of rice is is about $15US, so half the size and more than half of what you paid. :/

  • I think 1 USD is about 7 SEK(Swedish Crown). Doesn't sound too different from the prices in Sweden... maybe it's the US that is cheap? :P

  • interesting insight into japanese culture. thanks for making the video.

  • also .....those prices seem similar to what you will find in Trinidad

  • LOL most americans are usually surprised at the cost of food abroad...
