@lee2217 the train effectively grinds the top of the rails off to improve the profile of the track to allow for better track and more effective running. over time the rails become flatter wit the height in effect moving to the sides as it is onstantly ran over by trains and to stop this problem they use grinders such as the one in the clip to sort it out. hope this answers your question

I once had a flat that backed right onto the East Coast Main Line, that bloody Rail Grinder train was out there for half the night making a god awful racket! The sparks and stuff were well cool though.
