There are only two production cars in the world with a Lexicon-branded audio system. One is the $360,000 Rolls Royce Phantom; the other is the 2009 Hyundai Genesis. The Genesis will not cost $360,000. In fact, it will start below $30,000 when it goes on sale this summer.

For that bargain price, you'll get a near-luxury sedan with all the value you would expect in a Hyundai. Base models will use a 3.3-liter V6 that delivers 268 horsepower and 233 pound-feet of torque, while the midrange Genesis gets a 3.8-liter V6 rated at 290 hp and 264 lb-ft of torque. Both use a standard six-speed Aisin automatic transmission.

  • Good move in the right direction. Hope it doesn't end up being a miss like the VW Phaeton.

  • But they are not priced the same. The features on a Genesis would easily cost $10,000 more on a Mercedes.

actually, gensis is around 45k with its MAX options PLUS tax

yes, hyundai tends loses value quicker as time passes. however, you might as well take the bus if you want to save value. genesis' competitors are around 15k more expensive than the genesis. even if the value goes down quicker, you start off with more money in your pocket and less money going out for payment.

no one chooses one car over another just because its long-term value stays higher

  • Hyundai Hater? I love Hyundai! I had an Elantra GT before BMW. It rocked. All the features at an affordable price. But it was an Elantra and I priced it against a Golf.

  • Chino, I agree. Perception is everything. But perception drives resale. Resale drives depreciation. Depreciation drives lease residual values and, therefore, payments. Payments drive sales. Sales drive perception.

  • Chino, the biggest problem with the Hyundai is its value, not its price. And I predict it will depreciate at a far steeper rate than its engineering benchmarks. If you want to spend $40K+ on a car that loses over half its value in two years, be my guest.

  • XG350 was just a testbed and wasnt attractive. Hyundai need somethin impressive. Thats where the Genesis comes in. Hyundai is bettin on it. And I hope they are rite.

  • I think hyundai should redo their logo/emblem. Looks Cheap and need to change their old image somewhat.

  • Unfortunately the Lucerne or 300 don't come close in features or potential.

  • hmmm you are right about sonata. but i don't now, i guess we have to see later on because you said genesis is expensive, well chrysler is over 50,000 when it's full option, and i'm guessing genesis is close as 300, and i can't tell if it's expensive or not.
