In this interview from April 15th, 1994 Dick Cheney reveals the reasons why invading Baghdad and toppling Saddam Hussein's regime wouldn't be a great idea. He also stipulates that "not very many" American soldiers' lives were worth losing to take out Saddam during the Gulf War.

  • Dick Cheney was right. Invading Iraq and overthrowing Saddam Hussein would have bad and human politcal consequences but after 9/11, they were fears that Iraq may be developing WMDs and give to terrorists to install WMDs in the USA after years of Saddam ignoring UN inspectors, Saddam talks of to raining down WMDs upon USA, etc. That's why Iraq was added as part of a war on terror and Bush Jr decided they will not wait until someone attack the USA again. Many believed Iraq was truely a threat.

  • @Bugstomper2 Because the UN mandates against Iraq from 1990-1991 was to kick Iraqi forces out of Kuwait, not to go into Baghdad and remove Saddam Hussein from power. You cannot go beyond the UN mandates once it's passed. Doing so would destroyed the international coalition and George Bush Sr was told by the Arab allies that it would have bad politcal and human consequences if we marched into Baghdad in 1991.

That's why we stopped there and declared a ceasefire after liberating Kuwait from Iraq.

  • If they were going to invade Iraq anyway, why did they not invade Iraq, when General Schwarzkopf was at the Iraqi border during Gulf War 1? Look at all the $#@! they could've avoided? But no... They told him to stop.

  • @XtQfH He is right, which makes it even more insane that he ended up invading Iraq 10 years later.

  • Im iraqui, and i wish saddam was still their, he was the only one that could put everyone in order.Deep downside every iraqui father i know tears almost come down their eyes when they see old videos of saddam. Ya he killed many, ya he did bad shit ... but i promise you america's atomic bomb destroy more innocent lifes then saddam. I love america, i just never liked hypocracy and killing saddam was hypocracy at it's finest.Who was backing saddam during the iraq iran war? USA....... RIP my men

  • He's right in this video. I never thought I'd say this, but for once I agree with Cheney.

  • after the US pulls out of Iraq there are some doubts as to how strong the new govt can stand on its own. many people believe civil war will occur in that country perhaps within the next 20 years. The "quagmire" as cheney puts it and seeing "pieces of iraq fly off" may indeed come true

  • George Carlin Said in youtube " We like War" this Dick cheney played major role in Gulf war. Illuminati

  • Cheney publicly expressed concern that nations such as Iraq, Iran, and North Korea, could acquire nuclear components after the collapse of the Soviet Union in 1991. The end of the Cold War, the fall of the Soviet Union, and the disintegration of the Warsaw Pact obliged the first Bush Administration to reevaluate the North Atlantic Treaty Organization's (NATO's) purpose and makeup.

  • Don't let this become a victim of "Fahrenheit 451."

Store this clip in every cranny that you own.
