Olds 350 and 455 blocks are not the same. Though they do share some components.

70 was the last year for W-31. W-31 could not pass the emissions for 71.

Why didnt the guy just buy a W-31 Cutlass it's same thing. Plus the Oldsmobile 350, and 455 are from the same block why not bore it.

Although the W-31 was very similar, the price at the time wasn't. The original buyer was on a fixed income in the military back in '71, and didn't see his income with young kids being able to afford any more than he bought. It's just what makes this car unique. And Olds blocks are different... Pontiacs are the same.
