CS is great for those who are HH or late-deafened since they don't have to learn a whole new language! Where are you located? For personal instruction, You can try to find a CS camp this summer- there is one in New England & one in VA coming up. There is also a website to learn on your own (google 'art of cueing'). If you have other questions or want to chat more about learning, PM me.

  • I am very interested in cued speech. My boyfriend is hard of hearing and I wonder if learning this can help me talk to him over the video on the computer. I know I can always type while I talk so that he can get the entire message, but I don't want to do that sometimes and I think this will help when we having a video chat.

  • @kamigirl101 You would rather think out the phonetics of each word than use an actual language? Thats fine for you but I dislike cued speech. I feel the same way about SEE I and II. By the way, do you use cued speech to communicate? Also my intention was not to hurt your or anyone's feelings.

  • i know them:)

  • @warjikin i am deaf myself and i used cued speech, i think it is rude how you say that, and i think ASL is more complicated because my gosh u move ur hands around so much! how tireing! im just saying cuz u hurt my feeligns

  • The metric system is here, now. I use it every day at work and it's good.

  • You may hate Cued Speech because it's more complicated for you, personally, but studies have shown that using Cued Speech with young hearing impaired children drastically improves their results in reading and writing because it gives them access to spoken language, whose grammatical structures and vocabulary will be reflected in written language. Also, Cued Speech is not a language in and of itself - it is a visual support for lip reading to make similar sounds distinguishable. :)

  • I hate cued speech so much. It's so much easier to use ASL. While I don't like it, I did see it being used in a propes situation teaching the (did they ever say he is deaf?) boy English. I have seen cases where cued speech is used as the main language. I disagree with that use.

  • thats my bffs mommy
