A middle-aged woman went in for a knee replacement and came out with a huge incision on her belly. Want to know how that happened?

A woman needed a unicompartmental knee replacement that was done correctly. The problem began in the recovery room. During the surgery, the surgeon had placed a drain for fluid. He left specific instructions for the recovery room that the drainage tube should be connected to a suction device to remove any fluid from the knee.

Shortly after the patient arrived in recovery her belly began to expand. The nurses didn't understand what was happening; the residents didn't understand why her belly was getting bigger. A general surgeon was called and decided the only thing that could be done was to take the patient to the operating room and explore the patient's belly.

Upon opening the patient's abdomen, the surgeon heard a distinct 'whoosh'. After exploring all her internal organs, he came to the conclusion that there was nothing wrong with her belly and closed her up. She now had an incision from the top of her belly all the way down to her groin.

It wasn't until the surgeon spoke to the recovery room nurse did he realize what happened. Instead of attaching the drain to a suction device...watch the video to find out what the nurse did.
