Back in August we kicked off a contest to encourage developers to create games that made innovative use of Havok Physics and Animation for PC. We put $40,000 worth of prizes up for grabs and today we've announced the winners!
Our panel of five judges from Havok, Intel and university weighed criteria including uniqueness of physics in the game (i.e., is this something that isn't found in today's games?), use of multiple features of Havok Physics, responsiveness, graphics quality and fun. For the second category the criteria included technical accuracy and value to the developer community. Here were the top entries:
Category 1 - Most Innovative Use of Physics in a Game
1st - Creo Forma by Michael Peddicord, United States
2nd - Derby Attack by Matias Nazareth Goldberg, Argentina
3rd - Breaking the Rules by Riccardo Rosapepe, Italy
Best entry by an Irish university student - Rag Cat by Liam Rudel, Simon Coulter and others
Category 2 - Best Physics Knowledge Base Entry
1st - Introduction to Soft Body Physics by Skeel Keng-Siang Lee, Singapore
2nd - Optimizing a Continuous Rectangle-Rectangle collision Test by Matias Nazareth Goldberg, Argentina
These entries are all posted on the contest website, and are available to download and play. Visit http://www.havok.com/contest and check them out!
