Chainsaw Artist Rick Pratt tells The Batavian how he does what he does and shows us first-hand as he works in some detail on a sculpture of a bald eagle in Batavia, NY.
because he is using a quarter tip carving bar. it doesnt have a sprocket in the nose of the bar. The slack is needed to give the chain less resistance.
is that a turtle or an eagle ?

Like the other poster said, carving bars have no sprocket, so you run the chain looser so as not to overheat and burn up the bar.
Nice work and video BTW. Congrats to mr. Pratt on the great exposure.

Nice work Mr. Pratt! I have watched the sculpture emerge as I drove past it and enjoy the finished work tremendously.
