In this section, we will examine 1st and 2nd century sources which verify Jesus
as an actual man of history (not a compilation of pagan myths as some critics
allege). Each of the following sections offer their own advantages: the
non-Christian sources are important as they had nothing to gain by their
admissions. On the other hand, the Christian witness had everything to lose-
many paying for their testimony with their lives.

The outline we will be following for this discussion is as follows:
1) Secular Sources (Documentary)
2) Secular Sources (Commentary)
3) Jewish Sources (Non-Christian)
4) Extra-Biblical Sources (Christian)
5) Answering Common Skeptic Questions Concerning Jesus' existence
6) Conclusion

  • People are so stupid.

If you don't identify yourself to Christian morals then go take a hike, but stop insulting other's religion.

Christ's existence is more than proved Historically, by the gospels, the Antiquarium Flavianium of Josephus, and other archeological discoveries.

  • Not all Christians send their children off to "Jesus Camp". People think insanity is a product of the Christian faith, but look at scientists like J Robert Oppenheimer and his reverence for the Bhagavad Gita "I am become the destroyer of worlds". There are scientists who seek out Godhood, adopting pantheistic views, carrying the alchemical tradition... All these New Age "Yin Yang" idolizing, Buddha praising, ecumenical harlots are the corrupt ones. Public schools produce universalists these days

  • @doaftheloaf for information on the recent archaeological finds relating to Nazareth, try the facingthechallenge web site under nazareth. Some of this evidence I have also read quoted by someone on a discussion board trying to disprove Jesus existence! Even if Josephus is discounted there are many other documents listed in this (you tube) series of videos which talk about Jesus and what he did.

  • @tracyjane221 actually myths can develop fairly quickly.

the overwhelming consensus amiong historians is that the josephus account is a forgery.

what letters, sermons, and commentaries are you referring to?

i don't dispute the existence of pilate, caesar, or caiaphas - these men all have contemporary evidence backing up their existence.

as for nazareth, i'd like to see your proof on this one.

  • @doaftheloaf within a few decades of his death. How could a mythical person have so much written about him within a few decades? Myths take many more years than that to develop. Regarding archaeological evidence, a text for Pontious Pilate prefect of Judea and a bone box for the Jewish chief priest Joseph Caiaphas have been found, in addition to proof that Nazareth was a town inhabited at the time of Jesus. Although this cannot directly prove Jesus existence, it does back up the NT account.

  • @doaftheloaf There are many different secular accounts from the time of Jesus which talk about him both from Roman, Jewish and secular authors. In total 9 authors mention Jesus as a real person. That is the same number of authors that mention Julius Caesar - do you doubt that Julius Caesar existed? There may be disputes about the wording of Josephus' account but it is not proven forgery. These are in addition to the thousands of letters, sermons and commentaries found written by christians all..

  • @barakahasard the gospels cannot be used to prove their own claims, never mind that they contradict themselves and each other constantly. josephus is a known forgery. what are the other archaeological discoveries?

  • Suetonius was writing around 60 years following the date of Jesus, should he have existed. Makes you wonder how much he could have known about the facts. And in your quote, he is talks about Jews, not Christians. In 49-50, the Jewish people were forbidden to hold religious services. This may well be what he was refering to. Chrestus was a common slave name as well.

  • @itsGagaBitch Yes, Nietzsche agrees with you. He champions the "death of God" in modern culture, but laments that so few understand what this really means. You seem to understand it. Those who do this thing have indeed unchained the world from the sun, and there can be no good end to this. Do not despair; there are others who understand what you understand. Jesus lives. Evil and death are not the last word.

  • @barakahasard matthew 10:22 and you will be hated by all for my name’s sake. But the one who endures to the end will be saved. esv. I know your saying other religions and we are not meant to. parable of the sower not all people will follow God. but what I am saying is I look at people bagging on us as a fulfilment of his word. If everyone were to love us that would almost make that untrue. But also saying people are stupid doesn't in my opinion help out any cause. misguided, not understanding etc

  • @solidrockuk who is that coming from you? if you say stuff like that use scripture.
