I even have a paperback book of this movie with the actors who played Uncle Remus, Johnny, and Ginny on the cover of it. I believe it was for sale either before or after the movie came out in theaters.
and Yes, I also have this movie on DVD as well. I love it. :)

This movie is hardly racist. The people who seem to have a problem with it most are the ones who went through the slavery period themselves and can't let go of that history.
I'm African American myself, and I don't see a thing racist about this movie. I saw it in the theaters when I was about 6 years old and never saw it again after that because Disney never released it for whatever reason.
I see it as a reminder of how much things have changed since then.

@ShawnActor You are brilliant. Disney yielded tp PC pressure of the time and kept this magnificent film under wraps. I, as you, saw it in the theater while young and never could forget it. Foreign "bootleg" versions finally broke the ban. Isn't it wonderful? Thanks for watching. Charlie

Johnny Lee (B'rer rabbit) was also in the cast of the classic TV sitcom, "Amos n Andy". He portrayed Algonquin J. Calhoun, attorney at law. Also cast in the show was Nick Stewart as Lightnin'. Mr. Stewart was the voice of B'rer Bear.
