@sinwolf12 The 3 eyed crow was the one who helped Bran wake up. It taught him "how to fly". The book game of thrones gives a detailed version of the series but basically all major plot points are in the TV series. Spoiler: The three-eyed crow was once a man of the Night's Watch. After the sack of Winterfell, Bran and co. looked for him and found him north of the Wall. He teaches Bran about greenseeing and skinchanging which almost all of the Stark children have. Spoiler. Hope that helps.

@Doffz0r Basically it was part of the plot even from the beginning. Robb didn't have a major POV. And as it was suppose to be a trilogy, I think GRRM already planned to do this a long time ago. It was after all inspired by the Black Dinner. You have to understand GRRM hates the cliche that the good guys never dies & tries to be realistic. Reading it, I wanted to stab every Frey to death & wipe them out! But read DWD, you'll see Manderly gives it to them. The North remembers it does not forget.

Read farther and use your brains a bit and you'll find that he IS Ned Stark's son, but there was no dishonor there.
