My friend Nick had a great idea to carve our own pipes (tobacco). Man I cannot tell you how much this excited my creative side. After tons and tons of research on what woods, knifes, stems, procedure, stains, polishes, tools, and more to use the journey began. Now, everything I seem to come across where people saying dont try too hard on your first pipe because your going to get it wrong. I think thats crap. If you plan properly and do your research there is nothing that says your first pipe cant be a great one.

I did plan out the process, but had NO clue as to what design I wanted. I knew I wanted something somewhat "earthy". I wanted a weathered/natural look to it. I was originally just going to go for a simplistic long pipe style, however once I got to the more final stages of the carving I sort of threw caution to the wind. I did goof once or twice and had to inherently carve deeper than I had planned in order to revert some unfortunate chips and splinters. But I am incredibly thrilled with the results.

I would love to know your opinions and to see your first carvings, pipe or non pipe related. I am a fan of crafts!!!

  • Wood looks like cedar? Nice job.

  • Of course, someone had to be a prick and dislike the video. That is awesome. Did you just use a knife to carve that?
