In Part 2 we show you how to sand, shape and finish the board. Please remember this demonstration is for a small kickboard (or a mini paipo) not a full size (stand-up) surfboard.

  • Nvm on on that last one I get it where do you buy your wood though?

  • @wxxxxx2 I bought a lot of bulk stuff a while ago so I haven't had to buy any for quite a time. I just looked at my supplier and it seems they don't offer the bulk stuff anymore. But doing a net search I found Specialized Balsa Wood LLC and that will be the one I will try when I need more. They even have 8' and 10 foot lengths which are great for longer boards (look under "Balsa Blocks"). The redwood bender board I just get at a Lowes, Home Depot or local wood supplier. Good Luck!

  • After I make the skeg how should I put it on the board? Should I use wood glue or glass it?

  • @wxxxxx2 Hummm, looks like I need to finish my "fin" video. I glue mine then use marine varnish. But you still need to glue it in even if your going to glass it.

  • If I was going to make a bigger one how should I add the fins to the board

  • @wxxxxx2 The easiest is to add a fin box (or boxes) that you glue into the wood, preferably where the stringers are (for strength). That way you can change the fins or remove them completely.

  • hey quick question do i need to glass a stand up surfboard or will it be fine with waterproofing(laquer or something else)?

  • Thanks very much for these videos!

I've been surfing a while and always wanted to shape my own board.

I am making one for my DT course in collage and until I found these videos struggles greatly with different methods I have seen.

Using these videos as a step by step for making my own.

Great video, keep up the good work! :)

  • @wxxxxx2 I've done it 2 ways; #1 - use a 9" to 12" wide by length of the board by 3/4" inch for stringer (s) cutting the excess wood and shaping the fin from that one ( or 2) solid piece of wood. Glue the stringer in with the fin (s) on the bottom! Problem is when you break the fin it can't be fixed (but it looks really good!) #2 - Use a thicker stringer and glue fin boxes in. Now you can make your own, or buy pre-made fins.

  • @cama0101 There's so many things to consider. Start by reading what they have listed at the surfboard-design html found at the 360guide web site. Now for my boards, since I'm just a recreational surfer out for as much fun as possible, I threw out all I knew about surfboards and looked at what God designed for whale and dolphin fins and ended up with something similar to a 7' fun board. Great ride! But your talking to a guy who rides plastic food trays when there's nothing else!
