In the book I believe Mr Bennet thought that letting her go visit the army in Meryton would help her learn better about being self-sufficient and blow off some silliness so that she could hopefully become a more mature person. But that's just my opinion

Let me also state before someone whines I am speaking as I would speak to the ACTUAL Lydia Bennett. The fact that The actress portraying her is skilled in this modern day viewing/retelling enough to evoke the stress Lydia Bennett cause me when I read the books and viewed many of the films speaks volumes for her talent. I've no problem with the actors only the few characters themselves as I have always had.

I can't stay silent any more. Lydia needs to grow up. She is indeed being ridiculous. She didn't get something huge and flashy for her birthday from Just you so she had a tantrum. I agree you only tried to help her.

For those people making comments yes I know it's acting yes I know they are following the Austen Books. I'm being agreeable and speaking to them as if this were real and true. Because I want to and it's respectful the their hard work.

Lydia grow up and get off your high horse.
