Suppose you have created a complicated scene, complete with a neat texture, materials, animations, and whatever else. You might want to reuse the scene, or objects in it, in another blend file. Or, you may be collaborating with others. One person does the textures and materials, another does the animation, a third is setting up the camera, and so on. How can everyone work on his or her own piece of the project and have it all come together in one final blend file? Fortunately, Blender comes to the rescue. Blender has powerful features - called Append and Link - which lets you import all sorts of things from other .blend files into your .blend file. The goal of this tutorial is to show you how you won't have to reinvent the wheel. Instead, you just use Append and Link to reuse what already has been created.
Ira, great tutorial, lead me to a question on linking. I'm in the middle of complex architectural build, many rooms, furniture etc. So far I am using layers to keep everything for each room separate (no point rendering the bathroom if I'm shooting the kitchen)
My question is, would linking make more sense, be more manageable ?

Thanks for this Tutorial. Like almost all of yours, I thought it was very thorough, articulate, and so very helpful.
For users looking to import lots of objects, the trick is to Append the "Scene". This will then Append all the cameras, lights, etc., etc.

can you append lots of objects at the same time???

Hey. Do you know if you can import ipo data onto an armature from another blend file? I have two characters who use nearly the same model and exactly the same bones but I want to bring the keyframe animation over from one of them to the other so they can both move in the same way. How would I do that?
