This video contains the most current publicly available W2 information vs budgeted salary for the Portsmouth NH Police Department. The material for this video is published on the Association of Portsmouth Taxpayers website at http://portsmouthtaxpayers.com/?p=964
The dollar amount listed under the W2 column is the actual take-home pay of City Officers.
The average Portsmouth Per Capita income was $37,969 in 2008 (Source US Census), the year prior to these police salaries, and prior to the heart of the recession. Even if you take out the top 4 earners in 2009, the average Portsmouth Police Officer earns significantly more than the average Portsmouth resident earns.
The PDF from the Taxpayer Association website is on that page, and a direct link to it is http://portsmouthtaxpayers.com/wp-content/uploads/2010/08/Police-2009-Salarie...
We appreciate the good work our Officers do. Our objective in publishing this information is to bring to the public's attention what we believe to be unsustainable costs/salaries for Portsmouth residents to bear.
I just received a City W-2 that indicates I didn't receive the 42,000 I worked for but a whopping 68,000. The city W-2 adds in all of the medical benefits the city pays along with any insurance for death, AD&D, matching contributions to State retirement fund, ect.
The reported W-2 wages give a false representation on how much take home pay officers receive. I find it unfair that the city publishes this information without indicating that a very large sum is never given to the employees
