  • Exelente interpretacion maestro Villazon eres un gran tenor....... de las mejores interpretaciones que he oido al nivel de Mario Lanza y Caruso.

  • God he just labored more than neccessary

  • I just love it... the sound, the squillo and I believe him... the sound is only dramatic because of the close microphones... Bravo Rolando!!!!

  • I'm going to agree with giordani. He's pushing his voice way over the top and will burn out in a few years. Sad he actually has the tools but poor technique.

  • This is appalling singing - and with poor technique. It is very strained, and the tenor is clearly in strife in the upper regions of his range. A highly regarded throat specialist one wrote that singers ruin their voices by singing too high, too loudly and too often. Surely Villazon's operatic career is over. Compare this version of the Tosti song with those of Caruso, Bjorling and the mature Mario Lanza (near the end of his life).

  • @tenorinmunich Thank you for your comment. Yes, behind all my views is the love of the art - the almost forgotten one true way of singing. There are countless voices out there that have great facility. Indeed some of the people who possess them have great qualities and are likeable characters. But when it comes to singing they hide the true voice and along with it their true vocal colours, which are always far more beautiful than a 'created' colour. Bel Canto singers are true singers.

  • @tenorinmunich . . and please disregard my terrible typing. ;-)

  • @AmhranaiAlainn I like your comments. hey are not "harsh" but rather seem to come from compassion, the love of the Art of Singing an knowledge.

Please continue - and I'm glad you mentioned Bjoerling's performance of this song.

  • Look, I'm sure he's a great guy and he seems to bring charisma to the stage. But honestly, this is not singing. All the great vocal effort and physicality to try to make a dramatic sound. The result really is poor. When you actually listen, not to the sound, but to the clarity of pronunciation of the words it becomes quite obvious. It's just so unnatural and strained. Jussi Bjorling on the other hand sings this with naturalness, ease and with great substance. With him it's always the words.
