There's probably TOO MUCH information on tone but that's what I call crunch - it's distorted but a lot less than you would think - people ask Angus how he sets his amp. He says the pre is only driven like one number higher than the master. Hot pickups help too. You can also try your master on 10 + raise your pre just a hair up from zero, just the tiniest least you can move it and keep it at a listenable level (IE bedroom level) That works on my Fender Champion 30 DSP. Diffenent on stage.

Saw them last night in MS, freakin FANTASTIC. He sounded waaaay better too, vocals were great, and he's still got those sexy ass moves!!!
