This video records some of my experiences when renewing my Thailand car and m/c driving licences in June 2010 in Chiangmai (North Thailand)
I originally received my Thail driving licences in 2003 ... and did NOT have to take a practical or written test as I just needed to show my UK driving licence
The renewal process took half a day to do ... required a pile of paperwork ... but was quite easy to do even if not able to speak Thai ... so just be patient ... keep in mind that the government officials are just doing their job and do not make up the rules.
What was required ? .....
- proof of identity and residence in Thailand ... probably requires you to visit Thai Immigration ... they have a special form ... NOT free
- proof of medical fitness from a doctor .. you'll see I visited a small market clinic ... cost Baht 30
- visit the licencing office ... which in Chiangmai is on the Hang Dong Road past TESCO
In the application office you will need to
- fill in an application form
- check for colour blindness
- check you eye-foot reflex time (I should machine in video)
- sit through a 1 hour video (in English) ... basically the Thai Highway Code
- pay the fee ... which is about Baht 900 for car and m/c ... but note that this covers a licence for 8 Asian countries
- sit with an official who takes your photograph and makes the plastic card licence while you wait.
- the licence issued lasts for 5 years
@themikesee The only thing missing is U , eh numbskull ??
I did my testing in Phitsanulok , =-= if i was thai i might have got a job as a driving instructer , they were impressed
