Sufjan Stevens plays John Wayne Gacy, Jr. on 9.13.06 at Lakewood Theater in Dallas. It was a sold out show, and Sufjan was incredible.

  • Hauting song. Wish I had thought of it first, being a fan of serial killer books.

  • Response #3

Well, anyway...I'm not here to convince you to have to believe but what a glorious Saviour He is to have died for a wretched, ugly, nasty, disgusting, putried, evil, wicked sinner like myself and share His love, peace, mercy and grace toward me when I did NOT deserve it.

  • Response #2

While I am sure we don't want to shove it down your throat, and that is not our intention but the reason most people are offended by the gospel but when we see and savor the real and true Jesus Christ of Scripture, how joyfully sorrowful we can be.

  • I see no dogma in the response that honikon presented just a biblical world view of things that Sufjan could be saying. When I honestly assessed the song I thought the same thing. None of us is any better than the other because we are all on the same spiritual plain when we are born: dead in our transgressions and sin, with enmity and hatred toward God, lost and blind without Christ. That is the truth but you don't have to accept is as such, you have your opinions.

  • i can't believe that anybody would be so daft as to read a literal religious parable in sufjan steven's songs. he's an artist, not a preacher. if anything he's f***king with "the Christian framework", and that just adds to the disconcerting/challenging character of what he does. it says 'you must change your life', but not in a religious dogmatic fashion.

  • Definitely You couldn't get a song like this from any other artist. I'm glad you understand it.

  • pretty good explanation honikon

  • NiccoloA,

Sufjan is NOT creating empathy for a serial killer. He's pointing to man's sinful nature as exhibited in the worst of us and the best of us. It's only properly understood in the Christian framework.

    And in my best behavior

I am really just like him

    Look beneath the floorboards

For the secrets I have hid

  • whoever was filming this must've been sitting pretty close to us...Its good to see him in wings again..

  • Without doubt.
