I found myself with a completely free Saturday and was racking my brains trying to decide what to film. In hindsight it was an easy choice, Hampton Court Palace and its gardens, which are free to visit during the winter months, and the perfect place to do some photography. Hampton Court is some 8 miles south west of London and is on the banks of the river Thames.
Hampton Court Palace was originally built for Cardinal Wolsey from about 1514, one of Henry VIIIs most important favourites, but when he fell from grace and was executed, the King took it for himself. It is here that many of the wives of Henry were courted.
The following century King William III built onto it an enormous extension in the Baroque style, which was meant to rival the magnificent Versailles Palace in France. The Palace therefore has two distinct architectural styles, Tudor and Baroque.
Queen Elizabeth I also lived here but no member of the Royal family has lived at this site since the 18th century.
The Palace is now a major tourist attraction, and is supported by an independent charity, Historic Royal Palaces.
Bushy Park is adjacent to the Palace. It has 1100 acres in total, with numerous leisure activities always going on there. The deer roam freely.

  • @EHaines100 Its a great place to visit, and not so far from central London, just 30 minutes from Waterloo station. Thanks for the comment.

  • Nice little moment of home for those of us that find ourselves too far away. Thanks.

  • I go there everytime I can. It is an amazing place with amazing gardens. I recommend specifically the "20th Century Garden, adjacent to the main garden. Then, if it is Summer, take advantage of a boat trip journey back to London or to Richmond and thare take a train to London Waterloo. In Hampton Court thare are a lot of cheap antique shops as well... Thanks for this wonderrful video!

  • Fantasic !!!!

I really love so much this video and its sound.....

  • Actually I like the front of the palace because it is really old going back to Woolsey who built the palace. Henery VIII took it over after Woolsey's death. To enjoy plan to do the day there and take a lunch.

  • It's a beautiful place.
