Charley Patton-You gonna need somebody when you come to die (1930)

Whenever people discuss the "best" or "favorite" Charley Patton tracks, my personal favorites are rarely ever included, nor can they be heard on youtube, don't really know why ;-)

Here they are anyways, enjoy !!

Charley Patton was "the" delta blues man of course, his playing was raw and expressive, a distinctive style, rather dissident to the other blues players of the time. A monument !

The images in the video relate to Patton's life:
- The Dockery farm was the sawmill and cotton plantation where Charley and his family lived from 1900 onwards.
- "The masked Marvel" was the Paramount promotion campaign for his second (or third ??) release, crediting the first 10.000 copies to "the masked marvel" instead of Charley Patton.

- The last image is that of Rosetta, Charley Patton's daughter (one of ??) (last living and known anyways)

  • @busessuck1 Robert Johnson's "Last Fair Deal Gone Down" has the same 16-bar structure and is also on YouTube.

  • @TheIsraDave the actual song's you're gonna need somebody on your bond... by blind willie johnson

  • @mentorsickie Do you think he played in that manner?

  • I love him god rest his soul

  • Interesting picture of his left hand technique.

  • 16-bar greatness, like in Johnson's "Last Fair Deal Gone Down."
