The first one, over a hundred years ago, was called "maxim silencer", but the firearm industry have dropped the name "silencer" ages ago. Why?

Because the sound suppressors do not SILENCE the weapons, they only suppress the sound.

The name "silencer" already makes most people think the gun actually become QUIET, which it does not.
