what's useful here is the fact that you can't put short pieces like that through a regular planer. A drum sander would be the better way, but most people don't have that.

Ok you won't hear from me again cause I hate dealing with stupid people just as much as the idea's they come up with. Also about your first little comment about the post all turning at the same time, well they don't. If it had a chain or ribbed belt so there was no slippage then maybe. No it's fucking stupid and dangerous. That tool is portable and does the same thing without being dangerous and dumb. If they wanted to make it useful as what they want they would have modified the plate on the bottom of it with adjustable guides for thickness. So no it is not ingenuity, it is fucking stupid.
