This is a test of a dead weight drive for a clock; intended as a continuous drive for a clock without escapement. In my opinion, eddy current damping (the resistance felt by a piece of aluminum moving through a magnetic field) is a far better governor than any friction based centrifugal governor. See Dr. Philip Woodward's "My Own Right Time" write-up of Lord Kelvin's clock, which used a continuous drive for both free and slave pendulums. I discovered this after performing this experiment, and think it has great applicability to a unique clock drive.
