The theory is that our brains process sound too slowly to appreciate the complexities of this songbird's vocalizations, and that our bodies were not meant to fly. But our imaginations can be applied to song, or to spaceflight. One of these is real, prompting imagination. The other is imaginary, prompting the real. These are actual recordings of the nightingale. "Destination Moon" was filmed before human spaceflight. (The directors consulted with Robert Heinlein regarding the realistic depiction of spaceflight). The nightingale sings at night, and its song has often been portrayed in poetry. Keat's says of the Nightingale's song,
"tender is the night,
And haply the Queen-Moon is on her throne,
Cluster'd around by all her starry Fays;
But here there is no light,
Save what from heaven is with the breezes blown
Through verdurous glooms and winding mossy ways."
