While you are in Carlsbad (NM) checking out the world famous Carlsbad Caverns, don't neglect 150 foot Sitting Bull Falls. From Carlsbad city, travel south on 285 (the main street) and then follow the signs for Carlsbad Caverns by diverting right onto 180/62 and continue past the airport. Turn right onto Dark Canyon Road (Co 408) and follow the road until you turn left onto Queens Hwy (137). Travel 3 miles then turn right onto Sitting Bull Falls Rd (Co 409). You will enjoy magnificent scenery along your 30 mile ride to the falls as you travel through several open range cattle pastures. At times there may even be cattle in the road, so please drive cautiously. This video was taken Sept 2010 and there was only a trickle flowing down the falls. An underground spring is the source of this waterfall. There is a park ranger, picnic facilities, toilets, and a paved parking lot at the park. A $5/vehicle fee is in effect.
