In 69/70 we were using a combination of the M16A1 and its predecessor. The older version had an open 3-prong flash suppressor and no forward bolt-assist. The A1 had a closed "birdcage" flash suppressor and a forward bolt-assist. Both rifles had triangular grips and 20-round straight box magazines. These rifles look like later versions.
