It's your old pal Jonathan and his buddies Leroy, Asa, and Dee Sharp performing the song "New England" on 'Top of the Pops' in 1978.

  • Pay attention kids - irony free. You wont see its like again. In its way, as radical as The Stooges or The Pistols - while they flew in the face of everything that came BEFORE them, Jonathan Richmans's lack of cynicism flew in the face of everything which came AFTER.

  • ok,

so I'm only 15 years old

I love (Jonathan Richmand and) the Modern Lovers

Is it just me though, or can't I find 'My Little Kookenhaken' nowhere on the net?

    heh.

yup, I love them because my father owns 'Modern Lovers Live'

(but I like it better than my father does)

  • That is the most important point to make about this man...he's all the way serious in his nerdiness

  • he's still dancin his butt off :D

  • i want to go to new england and sing this.

  • @ClownPoet So SO TRUE! Jonathan does what he wants, doesn't give a hoot who likes it and who doesn't. i have seen him in concert at least 15 times, and i can't imagine a performer who has more fun!

  • Was this song a hit in the UK?!

  • New England ain't what it used to be . Then again , neither is Cal . Personally , I wouldn't live in either place .

  • saw jonathon richman play by himself in NZ while bootboys were beating each other other in the audiience - slightly bizarre but ranks as one of my best ever concerts - the man is a genius

  • Don't worry about it he also Loves the "New Teller'

might as well tell her, oh weller

  • I <3 New England

  • OMG.What a blast from the past. I had a roomate when I lived in Eureka ca, and he turned me on to the Lovers. Jonathan actually played at the Eureka bar and grill sans his band. Gotta realize this was /is a redneck town and we were the only ones in the bar familiar with his music--so we got really drunk and drummed and did the side vocals for most of his songs -and we didn't get thrown out. I now feel very guilty about that show......
