@Melissa341 That sucks. With training and trust, most horses (that haven't experienced something traumatic) will go right in. Of cousre being a beginner it's not easy to give the horse the right cues, the right authority and the right trust, but it can be awesome fun once you manage. That said, it's over a year ago since you posted your comment - did you find a stable?
@papergirl22 There shouldn't be a weight limit. However, horses don't have the buoyancy to stay afloat with a rider on their back, so when they start to swim properly you have to slide off and swim/be pulled by their mane alongside them. If not, you could submerge their nostrils underwater and let's say... bad situation! :P But yeah, a lot of horses enjoy swimming, you just shouldn't lean on them.
LORD! Can't believe you were using saddles hahaha! Was this salt water?! If so, poor saddles xD I've always swum bareback - don't mind bringing a saddle to the beach, but take it off before I swim. Don't want to ruin my expensive leather lol.
