Refs always prematurely hit Iowa opponents for stalling. Refs always gave Iowa the opportunity to let wreslters go while they had control of the head or arm to re-shoot. Which means it was not an escape that allowed Iowa to just continue to score.
Iowa's dominance during the Gable years were beyond impressive and they earned the respect from everyone..however, it pains me to say that the refs often were too intimidated by Gable and hit opponents with stall calls way too prematurely
