The power-mat has great potential. I can see the induction loop being built into all gadgets and a power-mat embedded in your desk. that would be very cool. But at the moment is just a novelty in my opinion.

I have a question: is it bad for the life (charge cycles) of the battery if you keep charging and stopping and charging again?
