Louis Andriessen (b. 1939)
De Snelheid
Oliver Knussen (b. 1952), conductor
ASKO Ensemble
Written 1982-83.
Even though this isn't from an LP, I think it definitely deserves to be shared. De Snelheid was John Adams's inspiration for 'Short Ride in a Fast Machine.' It is intense, exciting, and filled with energy throughout the piece.
Recorded in 2002. BBC Music Magazine.
Pseudo-intellectual garbage.

Just stumbled accross this in my music collection. Can't remember when on earth I purchased it...
Anyway, a very interesting piece. Need to check out some more Louis Andriessen.

@katjaisabella1990 Haha, well, I had a feeling he would feel that way. Andriessen has a history of liking a more "human" sound in his performances from what I have read. Thanks for the heads up!

@jre58591 Louis Andriessen gave a lecture at the University of Amsterdam today, and he told us he likes the performance of Oliver Knussen the most, because of the fact it isn't polished at all. This piece shows the difficulty of music and rhytm, and that should be heard in the performance.

I`ve always liked this piece-
Another striking Dutch composer , but one who has less exposure is Matthijs Vermeulen (1888-1967)

Yes, this is a great work. It's quite a shame that this performance isn't quite as polished as some other ones I have heard. But who can blame them? Some of the metric modulations in this piece are quite difficult to get!
