As we approach August, summer heat usually starts to kick up the most. But for residents at one Japanese zoo, staying cool is what it's all about.
Polar bears at a zoo in Japan get blocks of ice from their keepers to keep cool as summer temperatures top 30 degrees Celsius.
Yukio and Reiko appeared to appreciate their treats, which had meat and vegetables frozen in the middle.
Japan's climate is altogether different from the polar bear's natural Arctic environment.
Zookeepers began giving the bears ice blocks ten years ago, and it has since become a tradition, attracting crowds of bemused tourists to the zoo every year.
