July 14, 2009 - Surf City has gone to the dogs... literally! Huntington Beach has been named "Dogtown USA" by the editors and readers of Dog Fancy Magazine. Nominated because of its dog-friendliness, Dog Fancy editors dug up many options for K9 owners.
Any place that has beautiful weather is great for dog owners because most dog owners want to be out with their dogs, they want to go hiking, they want to do all kinds of out door things, and of corse Orange County is a great place for that.
It was the dog parks, beach, parade, and even surfing competition that helped Surf City lick the competition. But beyond the fun, Dog Fancy's winning cities have better laws to protect animals and a high veterinarian ratio.
Well being named Dog Town USA, is pretty exciting for us, we've dog friendly beaches and parks, restaurants an hotels for quite some time. And I don't think it's a big secret to let everyone know who didn't know, I think it's exciting and well deserved for those who worked hard to have the parks and beach be dog friendly.
As part of the award, Dog Fancy is presenting a $2000 check to the city for use toward Dog Beach at the July 20th City Council Meeting.
Last weekend also saw Huntington Beach's first Dog Surfing Competition, and today National Geographic Channel is recruiting pets and their owners for upcoming episodes of Cesar Milan's "Dog Whisperer".
Huntington beach isn't the only city in the county to be sporting puppy love... Orange county is a dog lovin place with dog parks, pooch friendly hotels, great vets and miles of leash optional sand.
