In November 2007, a BMW being driven at 33 mph in a school zone in San Jose hit 12 year-old Rasheed Hilson at 4:20 p.m. on a bright, sunny day as he left a basketball game at the Morrill Middle School. Rasheed has suffered permanent brain damage. He is bedridden for life.
The driver of the BMW, Kim Tran, claims she "never saw" Rasheed, although she did see other children outside the school. If Ms. Tran had driven at 25 mph Rasheed never would have been injured. This state-of-the-art reconstruction uses the same starting points for Rasheed and Ms. Tran that were used to reconstruct this crash at 33 mph, which can be seen on that separate video.
