SO, the mother was probably forced to write that fake ransom letter (or she thought of doing that herself), to protect their son. If I remember correctly the father already lost 2 children in a car accident in the past..I don't think they would want to lose ALL their children. I know "Mafia" connection is such a "fictional" term or farfetched theory, but it's all I can think of, with the DNA linked to an "unidentified" 3rd party person.

THEN, maybe Jon's screaming or moving around made the intruder panic even more and kill her by accident. The sexual assault may not have any 'connection' to the 'initial motive' but people simply can do bad, crazy things in the moment. Moving on, the parents MAY have heard and actually went down and caught the man, but maybe they were told that the mafia was behind him and if they said anything, their son would be next.

What if it was linked to the mafia? Maybe the mafia needed money back from someone who worked in the same company as Jon's father. So maybe the mafia somehow got to some personal info, which could have led to the knowledge of the father's bonus, and suggested to that person he can get money from there. So, that person would enter the Ramsey's home attempting kidnap for ransom. BUT, due to some unexpected event or panic, the intruder HAD to bring Jon to the basement.

@SHARKREEF2011 wrong that child was murdered by a pedophile obssesed with her and it was someone very familiar with that house. too bad the police and everyone else involved in this case were too concentrated on the parents and not persuing other possibilities which could have uncovered a viable lead to break the case.

@SHARKREEF2011 even if what your saying is true which it isnt, there is a major problem with john ramsey commiting this crime (1) if john ramsey had been in a cult a satanic one there would have been paraphnalia of it inside the house and the child would have been murdered else where and not inside the house. (2) people in cults have tight nit members inside it and the police or the fbi could have easily pined evidence of john bennets involvement in the childs murder.
