Young activists from around the world today kicked off Climate Week NYC with a choreographed human countdown demonstration during which they morphed from a globe to the sands of time running through a human hourglass. The dramatic human mobilization was designed to display in words and motion the urgency that young people feel about the threat of climate change, the need for action, and the opportunity to pursue an economic transformation that produces safety, opportunity, and prosperity. In the words of the organizers of the event, the time to act is running out. The human hourglass demonstration comes at the start of a week of civic and diplomatic action on climate change in New York and in Pittsburgh.

this was so much FUN to do and really moving to watch now.
But I will point out: it wasn't just young activists! One of the beauties of the event was, young and old, different races & ethnicities. Someone in a wheelchair. Babies strapped to their parents.
All New Yorkers were represented!

This video is better than most of those available about the event, because at the beginning it gives a good view of the representation of the Earth running through the hourglass. You can also see us doing the tck-tck-tck at the end -- using our arms as clock hands, to emphasize the point that time is running out.
