This was in response to a question.."Which chops better? The Barong or the Latin machete?" so I did a muti-machete chop test for a bit of fun...obviously this only covers chopping of softwood..all these blades could shine in other tasks such as splitting, feathering,,slicing beef.... ha ha!

  • Good vid by the by the Cold Steel Machetes range in quality from ok to great it all depends on how much you pay the latin style in this vid is under $20 just a tool not a weapon.

I have an early 2000s kukri which they called a SA it is friggin awesome it cuts firewood and everything else.

  • @Tinmancr1 thanks for your comment!

  • Imo all cold steel machetes are cheaply made and poor quality. You cant beat quality for example golok no2 or condor parrang.

  • @Cumbriansurvivalist you are right in what you say,,when the CS machete range came out a few years ago they were pretty good. Then the factory changed and the handles got harder. My Barong is one of the last made in the okay factory with a rubbery handle..my kukri machete is not the same..the handle is harsh,as for the new Condor range...every damn blade is awesome for the price,a shame the sheaths don't come with them all,and they have a higher carbon content than the CS.Time stands still 4 no 1!

  • If anybody is in the market for a new machete and from the UK. Heinnie Haynes have just stocked a Sog machete in two sizes for about £24 and £28 ..maybe worth a look on their site under Latest Additions...it appears to resemble the Ontario blade shape but with a nylon sheath,,hope this helps!!

  • @bassfuryvi there is a vid on the web of a Sog Safari that broke from the sawback teeth notches...so maybe a dud but hey...a bit worrying for a new blade to fail in a few strokes..

  • Awesome! That Magnum's full flat grind must be ideal for chopping, is it quite a thick blade too? Looks like the barong was a close second so that's good! If only the 18" barong was still available, I reckon that would be wicked with the extra weight and leverage. So did she manage to find all the chips with the hoover? ;)
