  • The statement early in the video that sucrose does not occur in nature is false. The crystallized sugar that we buy is purified and crystallized, but also directly extracted from plants. The sugar in sugar cane is sucrose. many fruits also contain sucrose. Some fruits contain monosaccharides (especially frustose) but sucrose occurs naturally as well. The sugar in an orange is mostly sucrose. But that's a minor quibble. The rest of the video is quite accurate.

  • Your point is purely semantics.

That's like saying that cocaine is a "natural" substance because refined from a natural source.

Yes, the substance occurs in nature in an unrefined form. So, it's natural in that respects.

    but...

No, It does not occur in a refined form. Man has to refine it. So it's a "man made" or "unnatural" substance in that respects.

There is no such thing as refined, bleached crystallized sugar that naturally occurs without intervention from man.

  • the word "natural:" has 38 definitions in the Random House Dictionary.

    Your using definition 1

"existing in or formed by nature "

    He is using definition 25

"not treated, tanned, refined, etc.; in its original or raw state"

  • Your argument is that is something is unnatural it is bad for you. I don't think that this is the case for many, many substances. For example, if I take a vitamin D pill in the morning, I can't see that having any adverse health effects. I'll concede that HFCS is probably the leading cause of the metabolic syndrome in America, but please, show me some biochemistry which can justify your claim that all unnatural substances are "bad" for you.

  • this video makes me want a soda

  • @thumper300z I think people have gone WAAAY overboard with the healthy stuff. I like the rule 'only eat what your Grandmother would recognize' (maybe that doesn't apply to the 35 year old grandmas out there :)). If you want to eat some Malt-O-Meal (which IS processed), go ahead. But don't eat liquid suckers all the time. You want a soda? Do it like grandma did -- those came in the from of 8 oz. glass bottles, and maybe once a month for a middle-class family. Moderation rocks.

  • You know what I like about this guy? He's obvious against some foods out there, and he's mostly right about them (IMO). But he also says you can have a little HFCS here and there -- not gonna kill you. It's the OVERCONSUMPTION of such foods (or really ANY foods) that becomes a major health problem. Proves to me he's thinking, and not just a health religionist.

  • Thank you very much!

  • HEY CHECK OUT [ STOVEPIPE JOHNSON ] HE WILL TEACH YOU !

  • Don't eat processed foods, problem solved.
