The composition is in five attacca movements:
I. Prelude (0:00)
II. Fugue (1:36)
III. Interlude (2:23)
IV. Fugue (2:53)
V. Postlude (3:33)
Premiered on May 31st, 2009, at the Chicago Cultural Center by Sandra Wright Shen.
Here are the program notes from that concert:
"On a Theme from Balance (2009) is based on Balance, a piece I wrote in 2008 for piano six hands. In Balance, the three members of the ensemble are arranged on the same bench as if they were all riding on a horse saddle. Each performer would reach their hands around the next, like a six-armed piano-playing Shiva on a toboggan. On a Theme is inspired by the same theme from Balance. It explores the conflict of auditory vs. visual symmetry (from a pianistic point of view). And, out of thoughtful consideration for your ears, this conflict takes place in the context of pan-diatonicism. I give my sincerest thanks to Sandra, my dear teacher and friend."
Performed at Sherwood Conservatory, 30 September 2009.

A fine series of pieces in a "contemporary" tonal idiom, ranging in mood from tender to turbulent.
Bravo!
