Outside the entrance to a nuclear bomb shelter. The better video is one I posted of the INSIDE of the shelter and can be seen here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=6JSMqdNFFlA&feature=channel_page

This is a Cold War relic. It was awesome being able to explore it for the first time. Vandals and scavengers haven't done too much damage to this particular spot - yet. If you go, this is at the upper base - not too far from the radar tower.

Mount Laguna Air Force Station is located atop Mount Laguna, with a steep drop into the Anza Borrego desert. It was a DEW (Distant Early Warning) site, watching for incoming missiles, and housed about 170 people until it was downsized in 1981. Now it is a multi-use satellite and radar communications site, operated primarily by the FAA, out of Los Angeles Center.

Beginning in 1952, the Mt. Laguna Air Force Station was home to the 751st Aircraft Control and Warning (AC&W) Squadron, later the 751st Radar Squadron, part of the Air Defense Command.

  • I remember exploring these buildings back in '02-'03.Pretty cool place. I wish I could've gone back there before they started tearing them down....

  • @herrxav Yeah, it was awesome to explore this bunker - and the rest of the base. Luckily I got to explore it several times before it was recently torn-down. According to a friend that was up here a week or two ago, ALL of the builds are now gone. :-(

  • Thanks for documenting these sites, fascinating videos. Lots of stuff that one can stumble across in the out of the way areas, fun fun fun

  • @Czechsix No problem. Most of the buildings here were recently demolished. :-(

  • how r u all the way out there and gangster tagging on the buildings? hahaha, there relentless

  • @Czechsix Ugh. YouTube's messaging system is being a (insert slang term for feminine cleansing product here) and not letting me send you a message. Will try again tomorrow.

  • @slworking2

Dang, I should really get up there to check it out while something's still standing. I'm pretty sure I can find it, but if you can send me a coord I'd much appreciate it.

  • @Czechsix @zmbyhntr Thanks. This base's days are numbered - demolition has already begun. Originally, demolition of the upper base - seen here - was going to be put on-hold for a few more years due to lack of funding. Apparently the demolition contractor dropped the cost of the bid and has already torn down some buildings here. The bunker likely still exists, though. I'll send you a private message with the location.

  • wicked! Wow this is amazing. Where exactly is this place i would very much like to visit it.

  • @slworking2 it was ok i didnt hate it
