i saw this movie a long time ago and didn't understand so many different aspects of it.
As I've gotten older it rings so true.
especially how the characters all have an emptiness within them that they think someone else can solve

I'm a little confused about the comments. This way of being has little to do with male/female sexual relationships. It is quite simply a respect full and grace full way of living. We can all (regardless of gender) behave in this way, together.
Having just typed what I have; I do find it very appealing to see males talking and acting in this way. Yes indeed! ...'cause I see true maleness portrayed (sp?) here in this movie.

Oh my goodness! ...how attractive! ... a man actually thinking, reflecting and feeling ...and another witnessing the tenderness and responding giving permission to talk about the feelings.
I've always thought that that is what we can be as well balanced adults. Seeing these finest of human characteristics demonstrated by men (albeit a movie) gives me hope (shivers of delight) for mankind
