I remember hearing this on a local radio station as a kid and my strait-laced mother howling with laughter....thanks for the pleasant memory!

@seageek ,
Me too. I grew up in Santa Ana from 1964 - 71...I remember listening to them on the radio (great stuff , I have three of their old vinyls)...could've been your parents DJ ing....small world.

Better than Geo. Carlin's "Wonderful WINO" ---not by much, though. This still astounds people who haven't heard it before...

I have this album and "Hanging in There", and may still have the 45 of Hippie & the Redneck. If I don't have it, my sister does.

Yes I heard them on KGBS near Whittier.

Great stuff.

First time I heard these guys was when I was a Lackland AFB, TX for my basic training in the Air Force in 1972. Their "Hippie and the Redneck" was being played constantly at the little BX we had tree blocks from my dorm.

sounds bad
Grew up with these guys thanks to my folks. They were disc jockeys back in the 60's in S. California. They were pretty gutsy considering what era it was..Thanks for posting!

I remember a narrative piece that got airplay in the early 70's titled "The Fate of the Mightiest Nation", which would probably be the track you are thinking of. But I had no idea that Hudson and Landry had anything to do with it. Jim Lange used to play it regularly on his morning show on KSFO in San Francisco. And Lange was a big "H and L" fan so good chance that was it. No clue how to find it now.
