This is a tutorial of the across the chest roll. I've included a few interations, including side to side and front to back as well as the half chest roll. I make some mistakes and my rolls are not as smooth as I'd like but doing it and framing it in my mind and articulating it all at the same time is hard! Do as I say, not as I do. Your hoop should not catch air. If it does, you're not relaxed enough. Breathe. Or you're releasing too early. Hang on to the hoop til it touches your forearm, then gently raise your forearm to propel it across the chest.

In this video I am sporting the hat my friend AliCat gave me. Thank you Ali!!! I love it!

I made a video that explores just the handing change also. It is here: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=RiCXpk0qdG0

  • "I've included a few interations"

    what's an interation?

  • @mcnee1ce It means a succession of possibilities or variations (which might have been a better word). In this case, a full chest roll from side to side, a half chest roll from side to side, a full chest roll from front to back. a half chest roll from front to back. You can also do a chest roll delivering the hoop from the back instead of the front but I didn't know that one when I made this.

  • Caroleeena! I struggled with hooping for nearly a year with other tutorials. I found your channel this spring and your wonderful descriptions and repetitions have helped me finally "get it". THANK YOU! I wish I had known that you were in Charlotte recently.. I would have been there.. I live in SC. If you ever come back to the area I will come to be taught by you. Thanks again, your energy and sweet spirit are infectious. xoxoxo

  • @dystructivegirl Thank you for your kind words. They made me feel really good. I get to Charlotte a few times a year and I'll be teaching in Columbia SC in June. I'm also thinking of doing a little retreat up in the mountains. If you'd like me to send you more info on any of these, drop me a note with your email address. It would be fun to hoop together!

  • Fantastic tutorial, in fact all of them are! I am having such a hard time figuring out how to switch the hoop to the outside of the hoop, i can't get it and it's so frustrating!

  • I made a short video of just the handing change. I'll post it as a video response to this one. Hopefully it will help you. Good luck!
