Part 1 of Michel Paquette's April 20, 2011 presentation titled "Broadcasting With Swamped Sensors". This presentation was part of the opening launch of TechnoTalks at Vanier College in Montreal, Quebec, Canada.
A known problem of cheap communication devices is that of swamping, where nodes may only successfully communicate with other nodes that are far enough from them. Nodes in fact disrupt communication processes of all nodes within distance r (the maximum range) from them, but communicate only with those nodes at a distance greater than s (the swamping range) and within r. We present an algorithm to broadcast under this communication model, in networks of nodes located in the plane with unknown topology.
