A video moved from Google Videos to YouTube because Google Video will be discontinuing their hosting of videos soon. Here is the old video description
The creatures now have computation trees for brains. The creature itself has several such trees, and each body segment has its own trees too (look up "genetic programming" to understand the sort of trees I'm talking about). This makes joint servo motor motion more complex than the simple weighted sum of sine waves that the previous creatures had. For that reason, the creatures often hit upon strategies that involve a lot of jittering of the limbs to shuffle themselves about. This particular creature is the result of a run using a population size of 200 for only 9 generations (I ran it during the night and stopped it in the morning). The rest of the creatures can be found here: http://www.stellaralchemy.com/lee/virtual_creatures.html
would I bee looked down upon for saying "it looks like a birdie!"?
seriously though, I find it remarkable that something so... digital... could actually simulate evolution from what you had before to this thing, with locomotion, instead of thrashing.
how does the breeding and generations work?
