Yes, I think it's the drops that cause it.

I had this done last august, in my left ear first. Then in November, at least a week before my right ear was going to be done. I went swimming and mistakenly forgot that you are not supposed to get the grommet wet. Which dislodeged it cos of the water pressure. So i exaplained to the specialist what had happened. Then after the op, he told me he had removed the dislodged tube and replaced it with another grommet. But now the grommet in my right ear feels dislodged. I guess its back to hosp again

In this video the doctor does not suction the opening of the ear drum BEFORE he places the tube, he's supposed to do it. Cut, suck, place, suck again, ear drops.
That's the way I had it done and that's how, I understand, SHOLUD be done.

I had this done when I was younger. And my ear drum never healed. It finally healed after more than 5 years, right before they were about to perform a surgery on my to close the ear drum...

yes, although it does leave a scar on the ear drum but if you get it done once or twice its fine you will hear again, but I have had it done 10 times now including one removal of the tube, and my hearing has suffered because of the scaring! but as a rule yes the ear drum heals and all should be well after the operation :)
